The Challenge
Guardian Technologies, based in Euclid, Ohio, makes air purifiers, sanitizers, and humidifiers. Its direct-to-consumer store earns better margins than selling through Amazon and Walmart, so every sale it keeps on its own site matters.
Replacement filters should have been Guardian’s most reliable repeat sale. Instead, customers were buying cheaper generic filters on Amazon, and many were unsure which filter fit their machine in the first place.
What I Did
- Concepted, named and launched Auto-Guard, a subscription for filters and accessories that gave customers a reason to come back to Guardian’s own store.
- Designed and developed a product-matching tool. Built on a product matrix, it shows customers which filters, stands, and accessories fit their machine.
- Put the replacement schedule front and center. The tool tells each customer how often to replace each filter, which turned a forgotten chore into a planned purchase.
The Result
Filter sales rose 300% year over year, and the lift came directly from the replacement frequency the tool surfaced. Guardian won back a repeat sale it had been losing to generic brands, on the channel where it earns the most.
